This is my brain on allergies...

For the last week or so my brain has been in a fog. My head aches constantly, and despite a steady steam of caffeine and Aleve I can't seem to kick the headache. Then a couple days ago I realized that I was kind of stuffy, so I figured it was allergies. I've dealt with allergies for most of my life so I popped some Zyrtec and hoped it would kick in soon.

My lackadaisical approach isn't working well, and my brain is as foggy as ever. But this was the icing on the cake. I actually went out in public looking like THIS today:

Behold, this is my brain on allergies.

Truly this is one of my more embarrassing moments. But embarrassment begets action, so I took my mismatched feet straight over to CVS where I loaded up on allergy-fightin' drugs and such. This is the arsenal I came home with:

(Actually, the red prescription bottle on the right is from 2005. I dug it out of my medicine cabinet today and seriously debated whether it was safe to take a decongestant that had expired 39 months ago.)

The big box is a sinus cleansing system. It's kind of like a Neti Pot, except in this case you don't have to tilt your head at an unnatural angle while pouring saline into your nostril. No, this system is much more dignified as you simply lean over a sink while squeezing the bottle, thus irrigating your sinuses. Here's a picture of me demonstrating the technique:

Oh, I kid. Some things just don't need to be photographed.

I did try the Sinus Rinse and it seems to have helped slightly. The sensation is kind of like getting water up your nose while swimming. I sputtered and coughed, so maybe this will take some practice. But honestly, I'll try just about anything to get some relief from allergies at this point. I might even take some of those three-year-old decongestant pills...

I am sorry you are having such a tough bout! We all have Sinus Rinse bottles here at our house too - Marcus swears by them. Kobe's allergies are bad enough that he has to take Zyrtec daily and Sinus rinse at least once a day (more during allergy season). I actually think that over the long run it is one of the treatments that actually helps him the most. However when he first started it, he hated it and even flushed the bottle down the toilet. It took a $300 plumber visit to fix that one so don't try it ;). I hope you find some relief soon!

As someone who has a whole host of sinus problems (turns out mine are malformed--my colds really are worse than other people's!), I can attest to the benefits of sinus irrigation. I don't use it as regularly as I should--but when I do, I definitely see the benefits.

I hope your array of products works well, and you're feeling better soon.
